What is a John Deere apprenticeship?
Like all apprenticeships, the John Deere Service Technician, Customer Service and Parts Support schemes combine training with paid employment, leading to nationally recognised and valued qualifications. Apprentices work at Balmers GM but also spend time at ProVQ training centre and at John Deere’s headquarters, both near Nottingham.
Your supported by a designated learning adviser and by Balmers GM, gaining valuable workplace skills by undertaking practical tasks and experiencing real-life challenges. Every apprentice is provided with an individually tailored learning plan, with progress monitored by the learning adviser who makes regular visits to the you at your designated Balmers GM depot to provide on the job assessment and guidance.
Turf Technician Apprenticeship
With the emphasis firmly on turf machinery, which is used by golf courses, sports grounds, local authorities, landscapers and country estates - you will develop skills and proficiency in a wide range of technical areas, from routine maintenance and servicing through to complex component overhauls utilising the very latest John Deere diagnostic equipment.
Parts Retailer Apprenticeship
John Deere is renowned for its outstanding parts and service support. This apprenticeship concentrates on how to manage John Deere’s sophisticated parts systems, run a profitable retail environment, merchandise goods effectively, and understand the value of John Deere products.
Customer Service Advisor Apprenticeship
The role of a Customer Service Advisor is to deliver high-quality products and services to our customers. Your core responsibility will be to provide a high-quality service to customers which will be delivered from the workplace, digitally, or through going out into the customer’s own locality. These may be one-off or routine contacts and include dealing with orders, payments, offering advice, guidance, and support, meet-and-greet, sales, fixing problems, aftercare, service recovery, or gaining insight through measuring customer satisfaction. You may be the first point of contact and work in any departmnet within Balmers GM.
How long does it last?
The apprenticeship programmes last for one to four years, depending on the course you choose. Most of your time is spent employed at Balmers GM where you learn on the job, but with the added benefit of some classroom and workshop tuition at the training centre and John Deere.
What qualifications do I need to apply?
Applicants should ideally have a minimum of three GCSE grade level 9 – 4. with a willingness to learn and an interest in working at Balmers GM.
What qualifications will I get?
IMI Level 2 Diploma in Work-Based Landbased Engineering Operations, progressing to Level 3 for Turf Tech engineering apprentices; VCQ Level 2 in Parts Operations progressing to Level 3 for Parts Tech apprentices.
Turf Tech apprentices can go on to complete their education for a fourth year to gain the John Deere Diploma and register at LTA2 level in the industry’s Landbased Technician Accreditation scheme, whilst starting their adult training with the John Deere University.
What does it cost?
There are no tuition fees. Balmers GM pays the apprentices wages and covers the tuition and accommodation costs for the residential training.
